In New York City, addiction can hide in plain sight. A loved one may be holding down a demanding job, living alone in an apartment, or moving between neighborhoods and social circles the family rarely sees. Families often find out how serious things are only after a crisis — a hospital call, a missed week of work, a frightening text.

Our role is to help you respond with clarity rather than panic, and with the privacy your family deserves.

NYC families often reach out when…

  • A loved one is “functioning” but clearly not okay
  • Use of opioids, fentanyl, cocaine or pills is escalating
  • Drinking is normalized, hidden or out of control
  • There’s been an ER visit, arrest or overdose
  • Family members live in different boroughs or states
  • Privacy and discretion are a serious concern

The five boroughs

  • Manhattan
  • Brooklyn
  • Queens
  • The Bronx
  • Staten Island

Dense travel, family members in different boroughs and privacy concerns can complicate an intervention. These details are discussed before a meeting is scheduled. For families beyond the city, see our New York State page.

NYC-specific planning

City interventions depend on details: a private and familiar meeting place, timing around work schedules, how your loved one will get to treatment, and whether care close to home or farther away makes more sense. We plan these logistics in advance — including transportation and admission — so that if the answer is yes, there is no gap between the decision and the door.

Discretion, by design

Many NYC families are concerned about privacy — at work, among neighbors, in their community. Our work is confidential, and we help families think carefully about who needs to know, who should participate, and how to protect everyone’s dignity.

Help moving into care, and steady guidance for the family afterward.

As parents in a crisis situation, with emotions running high, Joe was calm, reassuring, patient and sincere. He was always responsive, resourceful and realistic, with a knowledge of the field that made us feel he was alongside us for the journey. He always went above and beyond and we believe that Joe is truly blessed with a gift for this work and are forever grateful for the help he gave us!
