What is a professional intervention?

A professional intervention is a guided, carefully prepared process in which a trained interventionist helps a family invite their loved one into treatment — with love, clear boundaries and a plan already in place.

How does an intervention work?

An intervention is a planned and structured conversation designed to help a loved one understand the need for treatment and support. It usually follows a discovery call, a family consultation and careful preparation. How an intervention works →

When should a family consider an intervention?

Families may consider an intervention when addiction is affecting safety, relationships, responsibilities or daily life — especially when a loved one has refused help. When to hire an interventionist →

Does the person need to hit rock bottom first?

No. Families do not have to wait for things to get worse before asking for professional support. Should we wait for rock bottom? →

Does my loved one have to want treatment first?

No. Your loved one does not have to want treatment before your family can seek professional guidance. The National Institute on Drug Abuse notes that treatment does not need to be voluntary to be effective.

Is an intervention a confrontation?

Working with Transcend

What happens on the first call?

The discovery call usually takes about 10–15 minutes. We listen to what is happening, understand where your family is right now, determine how Transcend may be able to help you, and establish a clear next step.

Who will we speak with?

Transcend is led by Founder, Owner and Lead Interventionist Joe Ortiz. Inquiries may be handled by an appropriate professional interventionist from Transcend based on the family’s circumstances, location, availability and needs.

Where do you work?

Transcend is based in New Jersey and serves families in New Jersey, New York, New York City and nationwide. Interventions are done in person, and travel is arranged.

Can support be provided remotely?

Yes. Many consultations and family support services can be provided by phone or video.

How much does it cost?

Cost depends on the scope of services, preparation, travel and follow-up support. We discuss it openly once we understand your situation. What affects the cost →

Family support

Do you work with the whole family?

Yes. Family involvement is an important part of the process before, during and after the intervention.

Can you help us prepare what to say?

Yes. We help families organize their thoughts, reduce emotional reactions and prepare for the conversation.

What if our loved one refuses help?

Are consultations confidential?

Yes. All conversations are handled with care, privacy and discretion.
